With many rivers in Norway closing in the near future, here’s a tip for anyone looking for another great salmon fishing opportunity this summer. For the first time, Camp Onka on the Lainio River in Swedish Lapland has opened up a limited number of fishing permits during selected weeks. Camp Onka holds fishing rights to approximately 10 kilometres of the Lainio River, including some of the river’s best-known and most attractive salmon fishing stretches. Normally, these waters are only available to guests booking Camp Onka’s guided fishing weeks, but this year anglers have the opportunity to fish independently for a limited number of days. The salmon run is also looking very promising this season. According to the latest statistics from Luke, more than 33,000 salmon have already passed the counting station in the Torne River system. That’s the highest number recorded at this point in the season over the past five years, and significantly more than in both 2024 and 2025. Fishing permits are available: * Weeks 30, 32 & 35 * Fly fishing only * Maximum 8 anglers per day * SEK 800 per day For anyone looking for an alternative to salmon fishing in Norway, this is a great opportunity to experience the Lainio River during a season that has started exceptionally strong.
